As I surf the TV I see these ads being repeatedly played..one which shows a bruised woman covering her blue patches with make up and the other one which shows Kiran Bedi speaking against dowry and of course there are these messages that are issued for public interest that highlight  the ‘Girl child’ issue…the girl child that is fast dwindling like a going to be ‘extinct’ species.

My thoughts raced back to a time when my grandma was married off at a tender age of 11.( as told to me by my dad).She grew up like a Princess in her home but after marriage she was harassed,beaten black and blue,was denied food,was locked up in a room and poked with bamboo rods and all this by another WOMAN..the evil mother in law.She gave birth to 9 children and died ultimately due to lack of proper medical care..though my dad tried to save her, the damage was already done…

Her last words to him was that if he had daughters he should educate them and make them independent and they should never undergo what she did…

Well..after all these years as a single woman of the  modern world..having a means to survive,I still see most women around me,whether they are educated or not, experiencing harassment to various degrees…and a WOMAN being behind in most cases is a point to be noted..

 We now  see abuses of modern woman ranging from dowry harassment ,to taking all her salary or abusing her for her 'inability' to produce a male child or forcing  her to give up her career...

So what has happened to the Psyche of a woman? Is she behaving like an evil mom in law just to get back at what might have happened to her when she was a daughter in law?

Is she scared that her mama’s boy will leave her and so the treatment?

Is she bringing up her son in such a way that he becomes a ‘savage’ and thrashes his wife to keep her ‘under control’? or is he learning from his father when he thrashes his mother..the male ‘superiority’?

Is this a ‘Civilized society’?

Are women breathing air in ‘FREEDOM’ after more than 60 years of independence?

( of course..this does not stand for all the good mom in laws and husbands..PLEASE NOTE)

The awakening and transformation should start from the woman first..Stop this harassment cycle…..’JAGORI JAGO JAGO..!!!!
